Agra Fort was constructed much earlier than Akbar’s time. However, it was it was totally renovated during the time of Shah Jahan. It is said that Shah Jahan demolished many structures inside Agra Fort and built new ones. In fact, most of the architecture which is seen today is made by Shah Jahan.

Architects laid the foundation and it was built with bricks in the inner core with sandstone on external surfaces. Some 4,000 builders worked on it daily for eight years, completing it in 1573. It was only during the reign of Akbar’s grandson, Shah Jahan, that the site took on its current state.

Is Akshardham closed today?
‘After the temple re-opened post the COVID-19-induced lockdown, the timings have been 5 PM to 6:30 PM from Tuesday to Sunday, on Monday the temple being closed for public. For New Year darshan, the entry time at Swaminarayan Akshardham will be extended from January 1-3,’ the spokesperson said.
When should we visit Akshardham?
The best days to visit the temple are working days as there is heavy rush on holidays and weekends. There are lot of school trips also which add to the rush on weekends. If you are visiting Akshardham on the weekend be sure to keep at least one to two hours for standing in the queue to enter the temple.
