Why are grunts and hunters enemies in Halo 3?
From a real-world perspective, it’s because Hunters (and to some extent, Grunts) are really interesting enemies and they bring more gameplay value to the table as an enemy than as an ally. So Bungie decided to make them enemies again.
Who did the grunts side with?
The world isn’t as Black and White as one whole species siding with another. Some Grunts and Hunters sided with the Elites and some Grunts and Hunters sided with the Brutes.
Are elites enemies in Halo 3?

Can you assassinate a hunter in Halo 5?
You can’t assassinate Warden until he has around 10% health left. Being able to assassinate a full health hunter seems like it would be too easy, so maybe you should have to shoot off their back armor first and have them at half or less health.
How do you kill the hunter in Halo 4?
The most effective way to kill a Hunter is by shooting it in its exposed backside, preferably with a weapon such as the shotgun. Heavy weapons such as rocket launchers and fuel rod cannons work as well.
Can you kill a hunter with an energy sword?
It is also possible to kill a Hunter in one ram with a fast moving vehicle. The Missile Pod and Rocket launcher can tear Hunters apart. A very effective, albeit difficult to use weapon is the energy sword, as one lunge at the unprotected back can kill it on Heroic.
