FAQ

Why does my dog jump and bite me on walks?

Why does my dog jump and bite me on walks?

If your dog jumps and bites you when he is excited, it’s because he wants attention from you. One trick is to get down on his level instead of having him jump up to yours. With consistency, every time your dog jumps up and bites you, squat down to his level to give him affection and a treat to bite instead of you.

How do I stop my dog from jumping and biting when excited?

When a dog is nipping at you, jumping on you, barking at you, or otherwise being a bother, you have a few different options:

  1. Toss food on the ground. This is my favorite go-to.
  2. Step into the dog’s space. If the dog is loose and waggy, you can try stepping into his space.
  3. Be calm and boring.
  4. Leave the room.

Why is my dog suddenly growling and snapping at me?

If a dog that has never shown any sign of aggression suddenly begins growling, snapping, or biting, it may be caused by a disease or illness. Pain is an especially common cause of aggression in dogs. 1 Your suddenly aggressive dog may have an injury or an illness that’s causing major discomfort and stress.

Why is my dog aggressive when on a leash?

A combination of frustration and tension, leash aggression is a common problem. Many dogs that show these traits crave interaction with other dogs, but most have less-than-stellar canine social skills for creating a successful meet and greet.

Why does my dog go crazy when he sees another dog?

When your dog sees or approaches another dog, you want him to behave in a calm, friendly, confident manner. It is natural for him to be interested in the other dog, but not to rush into the other dog’s space, or vocalize excessively, which another dog may perceive as threatening, and can result in aggression.

Why does my puppy ignore me when I call him?

Dog language is visual. They communicate volumes with their posture, their tails, their eyes, and their ears. If you keep calling your dog or telling him to get off the counter and he doesn’t listen, then you are actively training him to ignore you. We need to make our words count in dog training.

Is it normal for puppies not to listen?

Many dog or puppy owners blame the dog for not listening. The truth is that dogs do what works for them. It is up to you, as a puppy or dog owner, to teach your pet to listen—by making listening to you work for the dog. Believe it or not, many dog owners inadvertently teach their dogs to ignore them!

How do I get my dog to listen to me when excited?

Add in some excitement and it can be next to impossible to get your dog to listen. There are two things you can do that will help. First off, avoid situations where your dog will get overly excited. Many people mistake excited for happy and get their dog so worked up before the exercise, the dog can’t think straight.
