Why does your voice matter?
My Voice Matters because every voice can combine and find strength in numbers. Survivors and allies alike can find strength and spark change as a group. I am one of the voices that make changes in the community for the better. I am one of the voices that speaks out to help those with the same pain.
Is your voice important?
They convey our mood and our feelings at a particular time. Having the capacity to project appropriate sounds can make a critical difference in the way we are perceived and treated. When used effectively, our voice can work in our favor and enhance our personal and professional relationships.

Many people use their voices everyday—to talk to people, to communicate their needs and wants—but the idea of ‘voice’ goes much deeper. Having a voice gives an individual agency and power, and a way to express his or her beliefs.

Generally speaking, the mechanism for generating the human voice can be subdivided into three parts; the lungs, the vocal folds within the larynx (voice box), and the articulators. The lungs, the “pump” must produce adequate airflow and air pressure to vibrate vocal folds.

Vocal fatigue is when the muscles of your larynx tire out and cause a feeling of pain. A reduction in endurance, loudness control, pitch control as well as poor voice quality and an unstable sounding voice are often symptoms and complaints of individuals experiencing vocal fatigue.

How do I stop vocal fatigue?
Here are several tips to recover quickly from vocal fatigue:
- Modified (not complete) vocal rest.
- Decrease the length and intensity of your vocal practice sessions (i.e. practice for 15 minutes 3-4 times per day instead of one 45-60 minute session).
- Use vocal “unloading” exercises during practice sessions.
- Hydrate!
