Why should you not touch a person while administering an AED shock?

Why should you not touch a person while administering an AED shock?

There are no paddles that can leak electricity to surrounding areas, greatly reducing the chance of an accidental shock. If someone is touching the patient, the artifact that is created will alert the AED and it will not shock until there is no movement.

Can you touch a person while the AED is defibrillation?

The only way a defibrillator can shock someone other than the victim, is if bystanders do not stand clear of the person being shocked. If the AED recommends a shock to the person, make sure that no one, including you, is touching the person. After the shock is delivered, the AED will tell you to begin CPR.

What happens if you get shocked by an AED?

Answer: A defibrillator shock, if you’re wide awake, will indeed hurt. The description is that it’s like being kicked by a mule in the chest. It’s a sudden jolt.

What do you do if the AED pads are at risk of touching one another on a small child or infant?

If it looks like the pads will touch, put one pad in the center of the baby’s chest. Put the other pad on the center of the baby’s upper back. You may need to first dry the baby’s back. Don’t touch the baby while the AED checks the baby’s heart rhythm.

Do you do CPR with a pulse?

It’s important to minimize delay in starting CPR, so take no more than 10 seconds to assess the patient. If the victim has a pulse and is breathing normally, monitor them until emergency responders arrive. Check the patient’s pulse every 2 minutes. If at any point there is no pulse present, begin administering CPR.
