Why would you want to go to space?
The ultimate purpose of going into space is to live and work there — just as the ultimate purpose of exploring the New World was colonization — and not merely to sit back on Earth and cogitate about what automated spacecraft report back.
What should I write about in space?
Ten Space Writing Topics
- Moon Base. Have you ever wondered what it would be like living on the moon?
- Space Stations. Assign your children to write a report about space stations.
- Journey to Mars.
- Should Pluto Be a Planet?
- Life of the Sun.
- Type of Stars.
- Is there Life Out There?

How can I go to space?
Getting into space: your options
- Visit the International Space Station. On 30 April 2001 Dennis Tito (left) became the first space tourist to fund his own trip into space when he visited the ISS.
- Take a trip around the Moon.
- Reach ‘outer space’ with Virgin Galactic.
- Become an astronaut.
What happens when you go to space?
The environment of space is lethal without appropriate protection: the greatest threat in the vacuum of space derives from the lack of oxygen and pressure, although temperature and radiation also pose risks. The effects of space exposure can result in ebullism, hypoxia, hypocapnia, and decompression sickness.
How fast do you die in space?
You would lose consciousness because there is no oxygen. This could occur in as little as 15 seconds.
Do eyes explode in space?
NASA makes it clear that your body wouldn’t explode and your eyes wouldn’t pop out of your head like many science fiction movies suggest. However, you would swell up and get really painfully puffy. Even while you’re floating there unconscious and puffy, your troubles aren’t over.
What happens to water in space?
Water poured into space (outside of a spacecraft) would rapidly vaporize or boil away. In space, where there is no air, there is no air pressure. As air pressure drops, the temperature needed to boil water becomes lower. In space, because there is no air pressure, water boils away at an extremely low temperature.
Can water form in space?
Water is abundant in space and is made up of hydrogen created in the Big Bang and oxygen released from dying stars. Earth was moulded from rocks that came from the inner solar system where the fierce heat of the Sun would have boiled away any water. So, according to the textbooks, water must have come later.
Can water travel through space?
You can bring liquid water to space (aboard, say, the international space station) where it can be kept in Earth-like conditions: at a stable temperature and pressure.
Can we make water in space?
NASA considered a process, originally developed by Nobel Prize-winning French chemist Paul Sabatier in the early 1900s, using a nickel catalyst to interact with hydrogen and carbon dioxide at elevated temperatures and pressures to produce water and methane. Water is processed through the Water Recovery System.
Does the Moon have water?
NASA recently announced that – for the first time – we’ve confirmed the water molecule, H2O, in sunlit areas of the Moon. This indicates that water is widely distributed across the lunar surface.
How do you stay fit in space?
To do that, astronauts on the station work out six out of seven days a week for 2.5 hours each day. The International Space Station is equipped with three machines designed to give astronauts that full-body workout: a bicycle, a treadmill, and a weightlifting machine called ARED, for Advanced Resistive Exercise Device.
What happens if you don’t exercise in space?
If astronauts don’t exercise, their bodies start losing bone and muscle. Bone and muscle loss mean decreased size and strength, and can reduce an astronaut’s ability to do work because it makes them weak. Weakened astronauts would be less able to do tasks while in space, Hagan says.
How fit do you have to be to go to space?
All astronaut candidates need to pass a physical before being accepted into the program. Astronauts are expected to be relatively fit in order to withstand high and low barometric pressure situations. NASA requires aspiring astronaut to have a blood pressure reading of about 140/90 at sitting position.
What food do astronauts eat in space?
An astronaut can choose from many types of foods such as fruits, nuts, peanut butter, chicken, beef, seafood, candy, brownies, etc. Available drinks include coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit punches and lemonade. As on Earth, space food comes in disposable packages.
Can you eat pizza in space?
Pizzas have not been perfected yet. Beyond that, astronauts can eat anything you might order from a typical menu. Cleanup is no fun, even in space. Plates and wrappers are disposable.
What foods can you not eat in space?
Here are five foods that NASA Astronauts can’t eat in space:

- Alcohol. United States Embassy, Berlin.

Can astronauts drink alcohol in space?
Alcoholic drinks are generally disallowed in spaceflight, but space agencies have previously allowed its consumption. NASA has been stricter about alcohol consumption than the Roscosmos, both according to regulations and in practice. Astronauts and cosmonauts are restricted from being intoxicated at launch.
Do you get more drunk in space?
Firstly, there is no getting drunk faster in space like in planes. Some studies even suggest that there’s no evidence to support us getting drunk any faster in planes, so who knows why I acted the way I did that one time…
Can you see stars in space?
Of course we can see stars in space. We see stars more clearly from space than we do from Earth, which is why space telescopes are so useful. Even in space the stars aren’t overly bright, and our eyes can lose dark adaption pretty quickly. NASA An image from the ISS of stars and glowing layers of Earth’s atmosphere.
