What happens if you leave AmeriCorps early?
Members that exit early can be exited with full award, partial award, or without award depending on whether they served the minimum hours, fulfilled program requirements, experienced a compelling personal circumstance, etc. Early exit is not synonymous with an exit for cause/without award.
What do you do after AmeriCorps?
Upon completion of service, continue to give back by volunteering (and bring your friends, too!). Find an opportunity at NationalService.gov/Serve. Connect to your fellow alumni using the AmeriCorps Alums network, LinkedIn, or your sponsor or service site.
Is AmeriCorps a government job?
Is it a government program? Yes and no. AmeriCorps is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency. However, virtually all AmeriCorps positions are hosted by local nonprofits, government agencies, and faith-based organizations that have applied for and received AmeriCorps grants.
What are the requirements to join AmeriCorps?
In general, you’ll need to be at least 17 or 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or national or lawful permanent resident. Some programs have no education requirements. Many VISTA programs ask that volunteers have a college degree or at least three years of work experience.
Do AmeriCorps hire felons?
Yes they do hire felons. They have a re-entry program.
What disqualifies from AmeriCorps?
Because an individual who is registered, or required to be registered, on a sex offender registry is automatically disqualified from serving, NSOPR checks must be conducted on all AmeriCorps participants and grant-funded employees who occupy covered positions, as well as on all Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions.
Can you work for AmeriCorps with a criminal record?
Regardless of the program, a criminal history involving a murder conviction and/or a crime that requires the individual to register as a sex offender will automatically disqualify them from serving through CAC AmeriCorps.

Does AmeriCorps provide health insurance?
The AmeriCorps VISTA Health Benefit Program is a health coverage program and is not considered insurance. The plan covers expenses for most emergency, medical and surgical costs, hospitalization and prescription drug needs members may have during their term of service.
Does AmeriCorps NCCC provide housing?
For NCCC, it is a residential program where your housing is provided. You will live in a dormitory for the first ~3.5 weeks, and then be provided with housing wherever your project sites (spike sites) are. On-campus, you’ll be in dorms.
