What do City Year members do?
City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches, helping students build on their strengths and cultivate social, emotional and academic skills that are important in school and life. As a City Year AmeriCorps member, you’ll work long days within a complex school system with many partners and stakeholders.

Do City Year workers get paid?
City Year AmeriCorps members receive a modest, bi-weekly living stipend. When determining stipend amounts, City Year considers the cost of living in each of our 29 sites. So, stipend amounts will look different depending on where you chose to serve.

Does City Year provide housing?
While City Year does not provide housing, you’ll receive tips and information on finding housing from an admissions staff member and your location. You’ll also be connected to an online community of other confirmed AmeriCorps members to help you find roommates.

It really varies. The AmeriCorps program that I did matched ~25% of applicants — but it was in a large city and provided housing, which made it more desirable. On the other hand, a placement in the rural midwest or south, e.g., would be less competitive….

Do I need a degree? You do not need a college degree to serve. If you don’t have a high school diploma, you may still be eligible to serve.
