Can you fail driving test for not overtaking?
Being Too Cautious to Overtake Many driving tests are failed due to test candidates being too hesitant and not overtaking when the opportunity arises. Assess the road ahead to ensure it’s legal to cross the centre line and be cautious of any junctions up ahead.
Can you drive as soon as you pass your test?
Can I drive straight away after passing my test? Yes. Although it could take up to three weeks for you to receive your updated photocard in the post, you don’t need to wait for it to arrive before you drive. As long as your car is taxed and insured, you’re good to go.
Does the driving test go quick?
The standard learner test in total takes around 40 minutes or so unless you’re taking an extended test imposed for those that have had their licence revoked, in which case takes about one hour. As you’ll be concentrating, the driving part of the practical test in particular goes very quickly for most.
How can I impress my driving instructor?

Will my driving examiner talk to me?
Nowadays, we’re allowed to make some conversation with you during your test. Having a chat makes the test more like a real driving situation – but do not get carried away! Focus on your driving above all else. And now, at the end of the test we always offer a debrief – pass or fail.
Is it better to take your instructor on your driving test?
The DVSA encourages you to take your driving instructor with you, but you are allowed to take another observer on the test, preferably the person who has taught you to drive. However, for most this is a positive change as it allows the observer to listen to the feedback provided by the examiner at the end of the test.
Can I use my instructors car for my test?
A car – most pupils will use their instructors’ car, but you can use your own too. You must wear a face covering when you take your test. If you’re exempt from wearing one you’ll need to let them know at the time of booking, otherwise your test will be cancelled.
