Do Weber grills need lava rocks?
None of our grills feature lava rocks/ceramic briquettes, and when we made our first line of Genesis gas grills back in 1985 we specifically designed them to NOT feature lava rocks/ceramic briquettes.
How often should you replace lava rocks?
With traditional use, lava rocks should last for about two years before replacements are required because of the build-up of grease, which can affect flavor, as well as the natural deterioration of the lava rocks from frequent heating and cooling after use.
How do you convert a gas grill to lava rock?
All you need is a metal wire grate that fits the grill and a bag of lava rocks. Remove the metal heat tents or barrier the grill came with. Fit in the new grate and evenly distribute the lava rocks. The rocks need to be left enough room for air to flow through but cover the burners to protect them from drippings.
Should you put lava rocks in a gas grill?

Can you wash lava rocks?
Lava rocks are often used for gas barbeque grills and can become quite dirty with food and grease droppings. You cannot use a wire brush or wash them in water as you might ceramic briquettes found in other gas grills. Instead, you must burn them clean.
Can you use landscape lava rock for fire pit?

What causes flare ups on grill?
A flare-up can be a nasty thing, coming on quickly and posing a direct threat to whatever is on the grill. These bursts of intense flames are caused by oil or fat dripping off of food and hitting the coals, essentially causing a grease fire.
What do you do when your grill catches fire?
