Are tapioca and cassava flour the same?
Tapioca, commonly used in puddings and as a thickener, is made from cassava starch. While tapioca is the extracted starch, cassava flour is made from the entire root. Recently, cassava flour has become popular among people wanting to avoid grains but continue enjoying baked goods.
What flour is similar to cassava flour?

- Almond flour. Almond flour is naturally gluten-free as it’s made from only finely ground blanched almonds (or from your leftover homemade almond milk pulp!).
- Coconut flour.
- Chickpea flour.
- Cassava flour.
- Spelt flour.
Is cassava flour and cornstarch the same?
As you might have guessed, cornstarch is sourced from corn, whereas tapioca flour comes from the root of the cassava plant. The cassava plant is a tropical tuber, which means structurally tapioca flour has more in common with other starches like arrowroot flour and potato starch than it does with cornstarch.
Is cassava flour the same as arrowroot?
You will often see the name arrowroot being used as a synonym for tapioca starch or cassava flour but they are not the same, nor do all three come from the same plant. Arrowroot is best known as a thickener that can be used in place of cornstarch, but you can also use it in baking and to dredge fried foods.
Can you replace all-purpose flour with cassava flour?
While you can usually swap cassava flour for wheat flour and all-purpose flour using a 1:1 ratio, it is not perfect for every recipe. Cassava flour has a very similar consistency but it is lighter than all-purpose flour. This means baking with it can be tricky. Cassava flour is lighter, yet it absorbs more liquid.
Can you use almond flour in place of cassava flour?

Almond flour is completely gluten-free and is also very low on carbohydrates. It’s made of ground skinless almonds and it makes a fabulous flour substitute in savoury as well as dessert recipes.

Yes, you can use almond flour to thicken your gravy. There are several brands of almond flour that are finely ground so use one of them. Also, if you use too much almond flour it could make your gravy taste a little nutty in flavor. So use only the amount that you need to thicken and taste during the process.
