Can maladaptive daydreaming be self diagnosed?
Diagnosis. It is not currently possible to formally diagnose maladaptive daydreaming. Experts did develop a 14-point Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale to help people determine whether or not they are experiencing symptoms of it.
How common is maladaptive daydreaming?
In the Somer and colleagues (12) study, the frequency of dissociative disorders in the sample of maladaptive daydreaming participants was 12.8%. Based on our clinical experience, however, we thought that maladaptive daydreaming might be quite common in dissociative identity disorder.

How is HOCD treated?
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is treated with a form of psychotherapy called cognitive behavioral therapy. It is a present-focused therapy that addresses how you are responding to your thoughts and feelings and how these responses can be modified to improve your mental health.
Can HOCD cause depression?
Along with HOCD often comes brutal self-esteem hits, depression, and social anxiety. If you suffer from sexual orientation obsessions, it can feel like you don’t know who you are anymore, like your true self is locked away and this “other” is taking over your life.
Can intrusive thoughts cause arousal?
Intrusive sexual thoughts may lead you to constantly monitor and check your genitals. This attention and the anxiety you are feeling may actually increase blood flow and physical arousal. This can make you feel as if you are aroused by the intrusive thoughts when in fact the opposite is true.
