Do you charge AC on the high or low side?
Every auto air conditioning system has two service ports: one on the high pressure and one on the low pressure side. When recharging with AC Avalanche refrigerant, for safety, you will charge through the low side service port. Never charge through the high side port.
Where is the low side of the AC?
The low side service valve is located in the line that runs from the compressor through the evaporator (firewall) and up to the condensor on the low pressure (suction) side of the system.
What color is low pressure?
red
Which is high side on car AC?
There are two: a LOW side fitting and a HIGH side fitting. The LOW side fitting is usually located on the suction hose or line that goes from the accumulator to the compressor. The HIGH side fitting is located on the line that goes from the compressor to the condenser.
What are the signs of a bad expansion valve?
Symptoms of a bad expansion valve
- Car AC system isn’t cooling enough or won’t cool at all.
- High side pressure is high.
- Air coming from vents is frosty.
- AC blows cold, then hot.
- AC kicks on and then immediately kicks off.
- Airflow drops dramatically from vents.
What happens if you charge AC on high side?
High loads will make sure that the TXV metering device is fully open and delivering the maximum amount of refrigerant to the evaporator. At these higher evaporator heat loads, the receiver will be at its lowest level.
Which is the low side on the AC compressor?
The low side, or suction line, will be the line connected to the compressor from the top or higher position. It will be cold to the touch and may be wrapped with insulation. This is where freon enters the compressor as a gas.
What color is the high side of an AC system?
When charging vapor should be added to what side of the compressor?
charge liquid refrigerant into the suction side of the compressor. Be sure the compressor discharge valve is open. The suction valve should be open 2 or 3 turns, with a valve stem wrench attached for quick throttle adjusting.
Can you charge an AC system without vacuum?
If you don’t vacuum out an AC system prior to refilling it with refrigerant you will not get maximum performance because there will be minor amounts of air (humidity/moisture) in there. Air can enter the refrigeration system through a leak in the low side of the refrigeration system.
