Why Bob?
It stands for Box of Broadcasts, a service to which the University recently subscribed.
What does it do?
Since roughly 2008, the people at the BUFVC have been recording all TV programmes from UK Freeview channels, plus radio from most of the national stations. Warwick users can now access all of this content, just by logging in with your university username.
Do they really have all that stuff?
Not necessarily – only as long as somebody in the BoB community has requested that specific programmes are kept. But since there are nearly 60 UK universities in the community, there’s a good chance that you’ll find what you need. Even The Jeremy Kyle Show – there appear to be over 400 episodes available.
How’s this going to help my academic study?
Well, if you need to watch a film, one of the BBC Shakespeares, a documentary, a news broadcast about a particular event….. the possibilities are endless.
Can I make sure a programme is kept?
If you spot a programme during the 14 days around broadcast time (in other words, from 7 days before to 7 days after broadcast), you simply tag it on the BoB website. In many cases you’ll find that somebody else has already done this.
What can I do with the programmes?
You can stream them onto your desktop / laptop / tablet / phone etc. You can create your own personal playlist. You can even create clips for showing in seminars and lectures.
Should I stop asking questions now?
Yes – I’m a bit pre-occupied thinking about how I can avoid finishing by saying “Bob’s Your Uncle”.
