To verify your employment history, HireRight generally contacts your previous employers (or their representatives) directly to confirm the information you provided.

Does HireRight contact your current employer?

HireRight will never contact your current employer without your permission first.

Can I check the status of my HireRight background check?

Yes. HireRight has created our Applicant Center, an easy-to-use app in multiple languages that you can access and interact with from your computer, tablet or smart phone.

How long does HireRight process take?

This depends on the nature and scope of the background check your current or potential employer has requested. An average employment screening check will typically take between 10-15 working days.

Does HireRight check salary?

After a request is entered, HireRight verifiers will confirm up to seven (7) years of applicant employment history, including dates of employment, job title, and salary information. In the United States, HireRight will not report a salary discrepancy unless the hourly rate does not match.

What does HireRight look for?

HireRight generally verifies the data that candidates have provided in their resumes, applications, background forms and/or interviews. They also check public data sources for information that may help the employer assess the candidate’s honesty and employment risk.

Does a termination show up in a background check?

Typically, a background check will not reveal a termination of employment. Because your termination will not appear in any public database, it is unlikely to appear in a standard employment background check.
