How do you know if its astronomy?
In a typical astronomical image of a star with an exposure time of seconds or even minutes, the different distortions average out as a filled disc called the “seeing disc”. The diameter of the seeing disk, most often defined as the full width at half maximum (FWHM), is a measure of the astronomical seeing conditions.
Can a telescope see through clouds?
Telescopes cannot see through clouds. Common optical telescopes work the same way as your eyes. If you can see it so can a telescope. In order for astronomers to observe these things with their telescopes they need that time to be clear of clouds!
Can telescopes be used during the day?
It is safe to observe anything during the day, as long as you don’t point the telescope close to the Sun. Just stay away from the Sun and you’ll be fine. E.g. Mercury is pretty hard to observe at other times than during the day (or dusk), and yet astronomers have been observing it for a very long time.
Can you see the moon through the clouds?
On a completely overcast night or day, you will not be able to see the moon due to cloud cover. On these occasions, you may still have evidence of the moon’s presence. On an overcast day, the moon will not reflect light brighter than the light emitted by the sun, so this effect will not be seen.
Do you need a clear sky to use a telescope?
All you need are clear skies, a telescope, and a plan. Every once in a while, astrophysicists, astronomers or even simple enthusiastic skywatchers get an opportunity like no other: the chance to showcase, to a new audience, what it’s like to look through a telescope for the very first time.
Does it have to be dark to use a telescope?
Don’t forget, it’s going to take your eyes around half an hour to properly adjust to the darkness and give you the best viewing. It can take even longer for your telescope to adjust to the temperature (especially a big one) so set it up outside an hour before dark so it’s ready to use when the Sun has set.
Can I use a telescope through a window?
Despite not being recommended, it is not entirely impossible to use a telescope through a window. If the observer doesn’t mind the drop in quality, they can still do it. Also, setting up the equipment beside it is a must, as well as pointing it towards the object that the person wishes to observe.
