Let’s celebrate! How and why you should celebrate your achievements during your postgrad

The sun is shining, the library has been more or less abandoned and there’s more ducks than students on campus. It must be the end of a hard working year and (hopefully) the time to relax and celebrate all you’ve achieved this year…By Nuala Clarke

Be proud of your achievements

Obviously, at the end of your degree you get the ultimate celebration – complete with silly gowns and cliched hat throwing – graduation. But don’t wait until everything is handed in and over, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate before that. Term 3 has finished, so no matter what you are studying, you have put months and months of hard work in and that is cause for celebration.

Finishing up?

Let’s celebrate! How and why you should celebrate your achievements during your postgradIf you are finishing up your Masters dissertation head over to PG Tips on Tuesdays 3-4pm in the PG Hub and get your own celebratory photo holder. You can swap out the photo to include your favourite memory of your time at Warwick!

Let’s celebrate! How and why you should celebrate your achievements during your postgradAnd for you PhD students, did you know the best way to celebrate passing your upgrade is with cake? Better head to Research Refresh on Thursday mornings, 10.30am-12pm. The best celebrations are always delicious ones. You can also get a PhDone tote bag from us at Research Refresh if you’ve recently submitted your thesis. You’ve got to get all your books back to the Library somehow!

Celebrate the small stuff

But you don’t need to wait until the end of the year to celebrate. You spend all year making little achievements, overcoming hurdles and making new discoveries.  Recognising your small achievements are as important as the big ones. Doing a degree can feel a bit like treading water in treacle at times, with every achievement being overshadowed with the need to push on to the next thing, so you need to make sure you take a breather every now and then to focus on how far you’ve come.

Next time you finish reading that tricky article make sure you treat yourself to one of the fancy teas from the Arts Centre. Got through a difficult meeting with your supervisor? Why not swing by PG Tips for a biscuit. The PG Community Team has events every week (even in the vacation) where you can toot your own horn and tell us all how great you are.

Let your hair downLet’s celebrate! How and why you should celebrate your achievements during your postgrad

So no matter where you are in your studies, if your achievements currently feel big or small, you definitely deserve to let your hair down. We just celebrated with you at the biggest PG celebration on campus, our PG Summer Fete. It was great to see so many of you letting off some steam and having some fun. We were very impressed by eh effort put into all the different sports going on!

Don’t worry if you missed this though, as this week on Thursday 7 September, we’ve got our Board Game Night In at the Dirty Duck! Hosted by ‘Tea and Tabletop’ there will be loads of games to choose from, catering to all abilities. So whether you’re looking for some light-hearted laughs or want to knuckle down and get your game on, there’s something for everyone. We’ll be kicking off at 5pm, running into the evening. See you there!
