Making the most of Welcome Week

Beginning Monday 23rd September this year, you can expect a week that will welcome you into Warwick in every way you can imagine! It will help you to settle in, or perhaps integrate yourself back in if you are already a student here. Here are some highlights that you can look forward to…

1. Warwick SU Welcome Fair

The Students’ Union (SU) at Warwick is run by students for the benefit of students. They do various far-reaching activities to improve the student experience. These include meeting with university management, organising events at the Copper Rooms and running campaigns like We Get Consent. Within the Students’ Union building, there are also various food outlets and the Student Advice Centre. You can find out about all of these things, and even how you can help to run the SU, at the Welcome Fair on Saturday 21st September and Sunday 22nd September.

There will also be some artwork available to buy for your wall courtesy of Pyramid Posters, check out a wide range of leisure activities in the local area and sign up for job opportunities with Unitemps. You can even get your hands on some free pizza from Domino’s.

2. Sports and Societies Fairs

Societies and Sports can form a huge part of your university experience. Societies are essentially clubs that are based on subjects, shared interests or communities that you identify with. The PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) Society has shaped a large part of my university experience. I was the Charity Secretary during my second year and loved organising various fundraising events and raising money for two fantastic causes.

Both societies and sports teams will have a calendar of events throughout the year. They allow you to develop new skills and meet people from across the entire university. There are over 250 Societies to choose from, and most of them will be exhibiting at the Societies Fair on Wednesday 25th September. You can find a full list here. Equally, there are over 60 Sports Clubs offered at Warwick for all abilities. Don’t forget to check them out at the Sports Fair on Tuesday 24th September.

3. Food market

If you’re a new student, Wednesday 25th September could be your first opportunity to experience Warwick’s legendary food market. You will find a wonderful variety of street food and locally sourced products. Brownies, gourmet burgers and Malaysian street food are to name just a few options you can find.

The market takes place on the Piazza, which is right at the heart of campus. There are many places to sit down and relax, and most importantly, indulge!

4. Inflatable Fun Day

The Warwick SU Inflatable Fun Day will take place on Saturday 28th September from 11:00 until 16:30 on the Piazza. You can try Human Table Football, Volleyball, Wipeout, and Human Whack-a-Mole. Take from that what you will, and all will be revealed when you head over to this free event during your Welcome Week!
