What is the purpose of ROTC in the Philippines?
The Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) is tasked to train and develop college students in the rudiments of Military Service in order to produce capable Armed Forces of the Philippines reservists.

During World War I, the United States created the Student Army Training Corps in an effort to encourage young men to receive both a college education and train for the military simultaneously. Those young men who did exceptionally well in the SATC classes were recommended for classes in the ROTC.

Does ROTC guarantee officer?
Senior Military College cadets are “guaranteed” active duty. Although many of the remaining ROTC cadets will get active duty, they are not “guaranteed” active duty. You can be commissioned as an officer in the armed forces, but not serve actively in that capacity and go to the “weekend warrior” reserves instead.
Do ROTC graduates go to basic training?
Generally speaking the 4 years of ROTC is the basic training for that program. The other option is to attend basic training through either your state National Guard or through the Army Reserve. MJC Cadets gain the most benefits from this program as SMP Cadets (Simultaneous Membership Program).
How long is ROTC boot camp?
Between sophomore and junior year, cadets attend a four-week Field Training camp (boot camp). Physical conditioning, an aircraft orientation flight, and weapons practice are some of the activities you will be exposed to.
Do ROTC cadets wear uniforms?
Yes. They wear the uniform of the service they represent. Uniforms are only worn on ROTC class days and during ROTC events, like field training. Outside ROTC, cadets dress just like civilian students.
Are ROTC cadets considered military?
As an ROTC cadet, you are not in the army. Unlike West Point cadets (as well as cadets at the USAFA and USCGA and midshipmen at the USNA), you are not subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
