What part connects to the radiator hose?
The upper hose attaches from the top of the radiator to the top of the engine. The lower hose attaches to the bottom of the radiator to the water pump of the engine. If the radiator hose of your car fails, it can lead to loss of coolant and subsequent engine overheating.
What does lower radiator hose connect to?
The lower radiator hose connects the bottom of the radiator to the water pump, which pumps the coolant throughout the system. Both hoses are connected to their ports with hose clamps.
What is radiator housing?
The thermostat housing is located in the engine in between the engine and the radiator. When the engine cools off below the operating temperature, the thermostat housing is closed. The engine’s closed-off part allows the coolant to properly and effectively circulate and move through the engine.
Can you patch a radiator hose?
Step 1: Determine where the radiator hose is leaking. Step 2: Let the engine, hose, and radiator fluid cool for 10 to 15 minutes, even if nothing seems hot. Step 3: Dry the area of the hose where the leak is located. Step 4: Tear a piece of duct tape long enough to wrap around the hose — about 4 to 6 inches long.
Why do radiator hoses burst?
The most common cause for radiator hose collapse is a vacuum issue caused by a faulty radiator cap. Another common problem is clogging of the smaller radiator runoff hose, which leads to the coolant tank. As the engine cools, if fluid cannot return to the tank, this will also cause a vacuum.

Radiator hoses are an inexpensive but critical part of your car’s cooling system. A cracked radiator hose can lead to a coolant leak and your car overheating; if the needle on your vehicle’s engine temperature gauge starts moving toward “hot,” it could spell trouble for your engine.
Does Radiator Stop Leak work on hoses?
Do not waste your time trying to patch or wrap a leaky radiator or heater hose. Sealers and Stop Leak products also do not work well with hoses.
