Why do flashlights fail?
When the screw-threads that hold the case together are fresh-cut, there’s a good connection, but over time that deteriorates. It’s pretty much unfixable. If you let a battery die inside a flashlight and it leaks, the chemicals can get onto the contacts. Sometimes they can just be wiped off.
