Why is there no District 13?
Its industries were mining graphite and nuclear science/technology. The Capitol had agreed to leave the people of District 13 alone, therefore they do not participate in the Hunger Games. The Capitol demolished the visible remains of the district and cut off all access from the outside.
Why did they destroy District 13?
It was destroyed during the First Rebellion when the united districts of Panem rebelled against the Capitol’s oppressive rule. Near the end of the war, District 13 trained nuclear missiles on the Capitol, hoping to destroy the Capitol even if the result was mutually assured destruction.
Why did they make Pollux an Avox?
Biography. Prior to his appearance in Mockingjay, Pollux was turned into an Avox by the Capitol. It is assumed that the reason behind him joining the rebels in District 13 is for revenge. When Katniss and her filming group were in the meadow around District 12, Katniss sits next to Pollux during a break.
Who killed Primrose?
Later, after the execution, Katniss asks Gale if it was his bomb that killed Prim. He responds with “I don’t know.” After the war, Peeta brings a series of evening primrose bushes to Katniss and they plant them around their home in District 12 as a memorial to Prim.
What does avox mean?
In the Suzanne Collins book, an Avox is someone who has been punished for rebelling against the Capitol. Their tongues are cut out, which forces them to be unable to speak. In Hunger Games, Katniss recognizes an Avox from when she was hunting with best friend Gale in the woods outside of District 12.
Where do Katniss and Peeta go to talk in secret?
On the afternoon of the third day they will perform in private in front of the Gamemakers. They talk strategy over breakfast and decide that they will train together instead of separately since Peeta seems to know all about Katniss’ prowess as a hunter.
Does Katniss apologize to the avox for not helping her?
She decides she isn’t anyone at all and returns to her room where she breaks plates and makes a mess in her anger. The girl Avox comes to clean the room and Katniss apologizes, both for the mess and for not helping her in the woods.
