Become Media. Activism on the Internet, between defection and experimentation .A book by Olivier Blondeau, with the collaboration of Laurence Allard (Editions Amsterdam, November 2007)

The first pages of Becoming media are devoted to virulent criticism, but firmly argued, by the reinforcement of many bibliographical references, of an article by Serge Halimi published in Le Monde diplomatique in August 2000, where the latter denounced the idealism of cybernautes believing in a new era for activism, the internet era. The Internet would not be for S Halimi the new place relevant to political activism. On the contrary, in O. Blondeau, and L. Allard, the findings on the end of the activists and the withdrawal miss their target, because they do not know how to recognize the spaces today relevant to understanding political engagement. The resources women active in politics have been converted into activism-mail. The question seeks to answer, the work may be formulated thus : “can the Internet be considered as a tool at the service of democracy, of collective mobilizations, the politics… ? “
