The best defense against Striking techniques is Grappling. The best defense against Grappling techniques is Joint Locking. The best defense against Joint Locking is Striking. Judo is a martial sport which focuses on Grappling, with limited Joint Locking included (I include strangling under the heading of Grappling.)
