What is the difference between a baitcaster and a conventional reel?
Conventional reels generally have lower gear ratios than baitcasting and spinning reels, meaning the spool will crank slower but will also have greater torque for pulling in large fish. Two-speed reels offer the best of both with a low gear for more torque and a high gear for faster line retrieve.
What is the difference between a conventional reel and a spinning reel?
Spinning reels are going to use spinning rods, typically shorter and lighter. Conventional or baitcasters are going to use a casting rod, these are usually longer and heavier.
How does a conventional fishing reel work?
Conventional reels are probably one of the easiest reels to learn to use as long as you’re not attempting to cast with them. They work on the same principal as baitcasting reels, using a rotating spool to feed line out and crank it back in.
Can I use a conventional rod with a spinning reel?
No. A conventional rod has eyes which the line passes through that are far too small to use with a spinning reel. The design itself is also not conducive to spinning reel use. The reel sits on top of the conventional rod and the eyes point up towards the sky on retrieve.
Are Walmart fishing reels any good?
You sure can get a decent rod at Walmart. Most Walmarts carry the Berkley Lightning Rod and Berkley Lightning Shock. They are both under $50 and great rods for the money. The Lightning and Lightning Shock are nearly the equal of some rods I own that cost 3 times that.
Are Yumoshi reels any good?
5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed! This is an excellent quality reel for the price. I have purchased many reels in my life and some of the more expensive reels I own are not as nice as this reel.
